That reminds me of Jacqueline Carey's The Sundering duology...which is basically a high fantasy told from the perspective of the "villain" 8)

You should also check out Trudi Canavan's Black Magician Trilogy. She does some pretty interesting stuff with classism and other forms of prejudice in traditional fantasy.
